Lausanne, Switzerland: At its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 25 April at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, the International World Games Association (IWGA) officially confirmed that Hockey5s will be included in the Sports Programme for The World Games 2029 in Karlsruhe, Germany. This outstanding outcome for the development of Hockey5s follows a bidding process initiated by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).

Whilst indoor hockey was an invitational sport in 2005, and Hockey5s was a demonstration sport at The World Games in 2022, this is the first time that a hockey format has been included in the Sports programme as a medal event.

“Participating in multi-sport events presents a great opportunity for our athletes and to further develop the reach and popularity of Hockey5s. Being a part of The World Games aligns perfectly with this vision. On behalf of the global hockey community, I would like to express our utmost gratitude to the IWGA for including Hockey5s in the official sports programme of The World Games 2029 Karlsruhe,” said FIH President Tayyab Ikram.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Anna Arzhanova on her election as IWGA President. She can rely on our support, and I wish her every success in her new and exciting role,” he added.

The 13th edition of The World Games will welcome around 4,000 world-class athletes from over 110 countries and regions to compete in about 35 sports.
