The IOC Coaches Lifetime Achievement Award honours coaches who have made exceptional contributions to their athletes' Olympic journeys.

Every year, the IOC Athletes' Entourage Commission recognises one female and one male coach who have played pivotal roles in the development of their athletes – both on and off the field of play.

As for previous editions, the seventh prestigious IOC Coaches Lifetime Achievement Award is open to any coach, active or retired, who has trained an athlete at the Olympic Summer or Winter Games.

"The Olympic Games are the ultimate dream for many coaches and athletes – we strive every day for excellence, and this award is recognition of all those long years of dedication," says Jane Figueiredo, who won the award in 2024 for her contributions to diving, alongside legendary pole vault coach Vitaliy Petrov. "Coaching has been my passion since I was a young girl and to receive this award is a dream come true."

Honouring holistic support

Coaches play an integral role in the lives of athletes, helping you fulfil your potential with their sporting and technical expertise, but also by providing guidance and support away from competition.

This award celebrates and recognises annually the exceptional contribution of outstanding coaches in the holistic development of an athlete to help them become a better athlete and person both on and off the field of play.

"Coaches play a huge role in not just who someone becomes as an athlete, but who they are as a person," explains Tom Daley, who won five Olympic medals, including a gold, under Jane's tutelage. "I was so lucky to have a coach who had my back, not just for sporting excellence, but for what it means to be a good person.

"The IOC Coaches Award is a great way to lift up the often-unsung heroes of sport – so many coaches sacrifice so much for their athletes in the pursuit of success. Take the time to tell them how much you love and appreciate them!"
