The Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium, Chennai’s premier field‑hockey arena, lies in Egmore district. Owned and operated by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, the venue offers seating for 8,670 spectators around a full‑sized, floodlit AstroTurf pitch, complemented by modern locker rooms, media facilities, and spectator amenities.
Originally inaugurated in 1995 and comprehensively upgraded in 2005 to meet international standards, the stadium has since hosted a string of elite tournaments: the Men’s Champions Trophy in both 1996 and 2005, and the Men’s Hockey Asia Cup in 2007.
Beyond these marquee events, Mayor Radhakrishnan serves as the home ground for all divisional fixtures of the Chennai Hockey Association, and was the base for the Chennai Cheetahs during the 2012 World Series Hockey season. Its combination of high‑performance infrastructure and spectator‑friendly design continues to support the growth of field hockey in Tamil Nadu and across India.
