The LA 2028 Hockey event format is an exciting and innovative new format for the Olympic Games, combining a great athlete experience, consideration for athlete welfare as well as being highly engaging for our Hockey fans all over the world.

The format for LA 2028 Olympic Hockey will be as follows:

Pool Phase

• 12 women's teams and 12 men's teams divided into in 3 pools of 4 teams each.
• The winner of each pool and the best runner-up from the 3 pools will advance directly to the Quarterfinals.

Pre-Quarter Final Phase

• In a bespoke and unique approach for the LA 2028 Games the remaining eight teams will play a classification round, being a Pre-Quarterfinal, and the winners of these matches will also qualify to the QFs. The losers of these matches are eliminated from the competition.

Knock-out Phases

• The competition will progress with Quarterfinals,Semi-finals and Medal matches (Final & Bronze medal match).
