With just three days to go before the first whistle of the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025, Switzerland’s co-captains Jens Flück and Yannick Hug are clear about their mission: to make an impact and show the world what Swiss hockey is capable of on the biggest junior stage.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Flück underlined the team’s determination to announce their arrival among the game’s elite. “We want to show everyone what we’re capable of, as well as the Swiss fighting spirit. Make an impact and show where Switzerland belongs on the world stage,” he said.

The challenge ahead is significant. Facing many of the world’s strongest junior sides, Switzerland knows the intensity will be at another level. For Hug, adapting quickly will be crucial. “The biggest challenge will be to adapt to the pace and the intensity of the world’s best teams,” he explained, pointing to the step up in speed, physicality and execution that awaits them in Tamil Nadu.

Despite the quality of opposition, confidence within the Swiss camp remains high. Asked how they view their pool opponents, Flück’s response was direct and fearless. “We’re not afraid of anyone. We will give 100% and just show what we can do,” he said, summing up the mindset that Switzerland will carry into every match.

For many players in the squad, this tournament represents a lifelong dream. Hug highlighted the significance of competing in a country where hockey commands immense passion and attention. “For us, it’s a big honour to represent Switzerland in India. Hockey has a completely different status there. We are proud to play at this event,” he said.

As the Swiss team prepares to step onto the world stage, the co-captains also shared a message for their supporters at home and around the globe. “Thank you very much for supporting us! It means a lot to us, and we hope to exceed every expectation you have for us. Go Switzerland!” said Flück.

Switzerland now turns its full focus to Tamil Nadu, aiming to channel its fighting spirit, embrace the challenge of the world’s best, and leave a lasting impression at the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025.
