Dutch maestro Teun de Nooijer joined a rare list of Dutch men when he played his 300th international match during the Rabo Trophy in Amsterdam.

He now sits alongside Jacques Brinkman, Erik Jazet and Jeroen Delmee on the list of Dutch men's players to have reached the rare 300-match mark.

Brinkmann holds the Dutch record with 337 matches, but both de Nooijer and Netherlands captain Jeroen Delmee will probably get a chance to break that record in 2006 providing they continue to play consistently for the next 12 months.

The 29-year-old made his debut in 1994 against New Zealand and has since been hailed as one of the elite players in world hockey.

De Nooijer's stellar career has been littered by a galaxy of gold medals at major tournaments. Two Olympic gold medals have been complemented by success at the 1998 World Cup and five winners' medals from the Champions Trophy.

Often the barometer of his team's success, de Nooijer's sublime skills and influence over matches has led to individual accolades. He has been named the Dutch player of the year on numerous occasions, the WorldHockey Player of the Year award  in 2003 and is a perennial nominee for the top individual prize in international hockey.

The one title to have eluded de Nooijer is the European Cup, where the Dutch men have suffered a surprising gold medal drought since 1987. However the Netherlands will get a chance to make amends at the European Nations Cup when the tournament kicks off in Leipzig on 28 August.
