After a run of games in which Scotland's forwards were somewhat below par with their strike rate, the men's EuroHockey warm-up game against Italy at Peffermill produced an avalanche of goals and a 9-1 victory.

The Scots scored only two in the first half of the game, and Italy might have drawn level 12 minutes into the second period after being gifted a penalty stroke and then missing another golden opportunity.

But Scotland were rampant in the final 20 minutes of the game, netting seven goals in that time, with Fergus Dunn completing his second hat-trick in three games, with two each for Michael Christie and Mark Ralph, and a goal each for Gareth Hall and Ross Stott.

ÔÇ£It was a much better and more committed performance,ÔÇØ said manager Eugene Connolly. ÔÇ£We have a couple of morning shifts in the EuroHockey Nations tournament coming up in Portugal, so maybe this bodes well.ÔÇØ
