Australia’s Burras (Men) and Jillaroos (Women) have sealed regional bragging rights at the Oceania Junior World Cup Qualifiers 2026, sweeping their 3-match series against New Zealand, as the men’s and women’s teams from both nations confirmed their spots at the upcoming FIH Junior Hockey World Cup 2027!
Held from 1 to 4 October, the three-match qualifier series renewed one of international hockey’s most celebrated continental rivalries. With Australia and New Zealand the sole entrants across both divisions, both nations arrived already assured of their qualification spots for the upcoming 24-team FIH Hockey Junior World Cups 2027. However, with continental silverware and regional bragging rights firmly on the line, the intensity was at its peak from the opening whistle.

In the men’s competition, the first match was a back-and-forth affair with Australia edging ahead to win 3-2. The second and third matches saw the Burras win by more comfortable margins, with a 5-1 victory in the second match and 4-1 in the third.
In the women’s competition, Australia stormed ahead in the first match, winning the contest 5-1. New Zealand fought back in the second match and came close to finding a draw before a late goal by Australia sealed a 3-1 win and secured the series in their favour. The final match saw the Jillaroos sweep the series with a comfortable 3-0 win.
