Connections and collaboration are at the heart of Hockey ID’s growth. Recently, former German President Carola Meyer introduced Cristina Llano from the Colombian hockey family to Norman Hughes, the FIH Hockey ID Project Lead.

Norman reached out to Cristina, who was visiting her daughter in Barcelona. After an engaging conversation on the opportunities and challenges for Hockey ID in Colombia, Norman connected her with Barcelona’s Hockey ID leader, Jordi Lobo Sastre.

Jordi welcomed Cristina to Barcelona, where they discussed the current state of Hockey ID in Colombia and Cristina’s vision for its future development. He shared how Catalunya’s programme began with small steps and, over time, built a thriving network of active Hockey ID clubs.

Cristina was then invited to join a local Hockey ID training session, where she experienced first-hand the inclusive and joyful spirit of the programme. Inspired by this exchange, she is determined to create sustainable opportunities for ID players back home in Colombia.

Recognising the scale of the challenge, Norman also connected Cristina to Special Olympics Colombia to explore potential partnerships that could strengthen and expand the reach of Hockey ID.

This journey, from Germany to Colombia, with support from Spain, shows how the hockey family grows stronger when it shares knowledge and stands together. The FIH congratulates Cristina on her passion and commitment, and warmly thanks Jordi and his Barcelona group for their support and teamwork.

Sharing and caring remain the key ingredients in building a brighter future for Hockey ID worldwide.
