FIH PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT GUIDANCE

Hockey, like many sports, carries an element of risk, some of which can be reduced through the way the game is played, but others are inherent and can only be reduced by safe practise. This is why goalkeepers wear full protective equipment and field players are allowed to wear shin, ankle and mouth protection during open play and face masks when defending penalty corners. Ensuring that these pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) provide adequate protection against the risks that may occur during normal play, whilst not creating additional risks to other players, is therefore very important. To help players identify good quality PPE the FIH has produced this guide (available in English, French, Spanish and German).
