Belgium’s men came from behind against the Netherlands to extend their season-long unbeaten streak with a 2-2 draw before taking the extra point in the shootout. Over in London, England’s men worked hard for their narrow win over already-relegated Pakistan to preserve their outside chance of catching the Belgians at the top of the table. The English women, however, remain in the relegation battle after a 1-0 loss to Spain. Meanwhile, the Dutch women celebrated sealing a sixth Pro League title and Olympic qualification in style by completing a commanding 6-0 victory over Australia. And in Berlin, Germany struck late to edge Argentina 2-1, while earlier in the evening, China also left it late to snatch a 2-1 victory over Ireland.
For the first time in history, every athlete at the Olympic Games will be eligible for a new USD 10,000 “Fit for the Future Olympian Grant”. The grant has been set up to support the sporting career or the career transition of Olympians. A fund of USD 140 million per Olympiad has been set aside, as announced today by the Chair of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes’ Commission (AC), Pau Gasol, during the 146th IOC Session in Lausanne, Switzerland. The first athletes to benefit from this initiative will be the Olympians who competed at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
The Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 has its first confirmed qualifier, alongside the hosts, as the Netherlands women’s team has mathematically secured the FIH Hockey Pro League 2025-26 title, continuing their absolute ascendancy over the sport and punching their direct ticket to Hollywood in the process.
The Netherlands women took a step closer to securing the FIH Hockey Pro League title without playing a match on Tuesday after their closest rivals, Argentina and Belgium, failed to win their respective matches in regulation time. Argentina went down 2-1 to Spain in a scorching London, while Belgium’s women drew 1-1 with Australia before claiming a bonus point in the shootout. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s loss to India in an entertaining encounter confirmed their relegation from the men’s tournament. In the other matches of the day, Spain’s men also pulled off a victory over Argentina, while Australia’s men beat the Netherlands 2-0, and Germany’s women secured a win over Ireland by the same margin.
Lausanne, Switzerland - As the global sporting community comes together to celebrate Olympic Day on 23 June, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) will launch its inspiring new campaign, “Made for Hockey. Made for LA”, across its digital platforms and at FIH Hockey Pro League venues.
